Miss Leeds Area Outstanding Teen 2012

Hi everyone,

The moment my name was called out as Miss Leeds Area Outstanding Teen, I was
immediately awestruck that it really had just happened. The whole time after my crown
was placed on my head, everyone backstage was telling me how great the “Leeds
Family” was. From the time you first sat down for the first meeting of the morning, to the
time you walk out of the door, you are treated just like family.

I’m a fifteen-year-old sophomore at Sylacauga High School in Sylacauga, Alabama,
where I’m a part of the Sylacauga Half Million Dollar Marching Band Auxiliary Line as a
Darlin’ Devil Majorette. I thoroughly enjoy school, and after graduating I plan to pursue
a degree in Ophthalmology. Out of school I enjoy playing piano, swimming, reading,
writing my own books, and “hanging out” with my best friends. I am an active member of
my church Youth Group at Sylacauga First United Methodist and will proudly say that I
am a Christian to anyone who asks. I give all of my glory to God, and thank him for His
many blessings that He has given to me everyday.

My platform is “Love Always Remembers”-Alzheimer’s Awareness. My Nana was
diagnosed with Alzheimer’s two years ago, and since then we have been saying a long
goodbye to her. When she was diagnosed, it was laid on my heart to promote
awareness and to tell my home town, my state, and my country, about this horrible
disease. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States, and the only one in
the top ten that cannot be slowed, cured, or prevented. I have started a support blog,
www.lovealwaysremembers.blogspot.com, to help promote awareness, and to give
people who are experiencing this same loss a place to express their emotions. I am
also in the process of organizing an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in my home town. Please
stay tuned to my blog for more information on the Memory Walk. For the National
Platform of the Miss America Organization, Children’s Miracle Network, I have made
Christmas Cards for the children of the Children’s Hospital, and I’ve performed my
talent, classical piano, for entertainment at the hospital.

One of my favorite quotes is by Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what
you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made
them feel.” I have and will continue to live by this quote for my reign as Miss Leeds
Area Outstanding Teen and beyond.
